Quotes of the Day(今日名言警句)这个网站我隔三差五就要都要浏览一次，有时候看到有意思的名人名言就记下来，其中一部分翻译出来收入了中国书店出版的《东方文化西方语》，利用每一页的纸面页脚用小字排出，提高了本书的“信价比”(“信价比”这个词是方雨教授“发明”的，指书刊信息量与价格之比)。 比如法国诗人保罗•瓦莱里(Paul Valery，1871 – 1945)的这句话就很有趣：“书籍和人类一样有共同的敌人：火灾、潮湿、动物、天气还有他们自己的内涵(Books have the same enemies as people: fire, humidity, animals, weather, and their own content)”。
不过，这个网站上的名言警句有时候读起来也让人纳闷以致于郁闷，因为它们号称是Chinese Proverb(中国谚语)，但我作为中国人却不甚了了，想不出来这些Chinese Proverb 到底对应哪些“中国谚语”。比如下面这些Chinese Proverb，我可以大致翻译出其意义，但是还没有想出对应的中文原句：
